Groundwork
working for Bury and Bolton

About us

Playing on a Groundwork project

Since 2002 Groundwork Bury has been working in partnership to improve the quality of the local environment, the lives of local people and the success of local businesses.

Prior to that we existed as the ‘Bury Business Environment Association’, working with small businesses to improve their environmental performance.

Groundwork Bury is part of a federation of nearly 50 Groundwork Trusts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, each working to meet the needs of local people. Groundwork Trusts are registered charities and each is a partnership between the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Groundwork’s purpose is to build sustainable communities in areas of need through joint environmental action. We deliver programmes of work that address three strategic priorities:

For people: creating opportunities for people to learn new skills and become more active citizens

For places: delivering environmental improvements that create cleaner, safer and greener neighbourhoods

For prosperity: helping businesses and individuals fulfil their potential

Bury is often seen as an affluent borough of Greater Manchester, but significant pockets of deprivation exist, and that is where we focus our work.

In Bolton, we deliver a programme of support to businesses to address their environmental performance, and we are increasingly also working with communities within Bolton to improve their neighbourhoods.
